Going From Blonde To Brunette Hair

Going From Blonde To Brunette Hair – As a stylist, when you have a brunette client and hear that their goal is to go blonde, you automatically start thinking of several different scenarios and outcomes. Unfortunately, bleached hair loss is always at one end of the spectrum. There are many factors that go into the success or failure of your hair transition from brunette to blonde.

This article is designed to assure you that the tone you want is completely attainable. At the same time, it is said that going blonde from natural brunette hair is not as easy as it seems. If you want to achieve amazing results like below, keep these 5 basic rules in mind.

Let’s start with some basics of hair color science here. Stylists recognize 10 levels of hair color, from dark brown to light blonde. Using blonde hair color over a brown base will not help to achieve any changes – before lightening brown strands, you need to “lift” them and remove their natural black color. As you can imagine, the more intense the change, the more damage your hair will suffer. So the rule of thumb is to only go two shades higher per appointment and never use bleach on damaged hair.

This brings us to the next rule, which is to discuss your color ideas in advance and prepare for changes. To avoid the dangers of bleaching, don’t think about blonde hair until you get your hair strong and healthy first. Take small steps towards your main goal, and you will definitely like the result!

There’s a blonde hair color for everyone, it’s all about finding the right shade for your skin tone. Basically, you need to understand whether a warm or cool tone will suit your skin tone. This can be done according to your skin tone. If it’s pink so you can see blue veins, and your eyes are blue or cool brown – choose cool blonde shades like ash blonde, icy and platinum blonde.

Warm blondes such as caramel, cream and honey blondes will appeal to women with yellow and golden complexions and hazel eyes. This is not to say that brown cannot be used to tone platinum blonde hair – it can work especially well in some cases. If you really want a certain shade of blonde, go for it, and don’t hesitate to ask for another color if the experiment doesn’t work. A warmer or cooler shade can be created using semi-permanent or semi-permanent toners, which are far less damaging than bleach.

Can Your Hair Color Lighten From Brown To Blonde Naturally On Its Own?

Ask for a blonde consultation before committing to a hair color and be open with your colorist about your hair history. It may not seem appropriate for you, but it’s important for a stylist to know whether your current brown color is your natural shade, dyed, boxed, or pre-lightened.

Most of my private clients who want to transition from brunette to blonde come in with beautiful canvas and mostly raw brown hair. If you’re also trying to dye your hair blonde for the first time, your stylist will try a strand of 20 volume bleach to see if it will lift. This allows you to discuss the timeline for achieving your desired shade of blonde.

However, if your hair is dyed or dyed, your hair will react badly to bleach and your stylist may need to come up with a long-term plan. This could mean something like getting an Olaplex treatment every 8 weeks and getting a trim and using at-home hair care products.

Even if you go blonde in one appointment, you should understand that this color requires frequent and often expensive visits to the salon and quality hair care at home. This is one of those moments where beauty has a price and you have to be willing to accept it.

I am always concerned about my customer and guarantee no harm. Even if your colorist uses Olaplex every step of the way, there’s a good chance you’ll end up with split ends from the bleaching and toning process (by the way, my advice is to get rid of dead ends and keep it break-free). So get ready to pamper your hair and style it without hot tools. Stock up on a good quality sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner and use the conditioner every wash day. After the full blonde service, a hair mask once every 2 weeks is mandatory. You should also use a purple shampoo at home to maintain salon results and keep yellow and orange tones in between salon visits.

Brown hair regrowth is very noticeable on blonde hair. Root canal fixers can help you with this now, but don’t let them put off your repair appointment! Overgrowth is a big challenge for the stylist, as the heat of the scalp forces the hair to process faster than the roots, so there is a risk that the hair colors used will not match. Today’s hair color trends like balayage and dark roots make it easy to go from brown to blonde, but that doesn’t mean you can go without maintenance. Therefore, planning your next salon visit 6-8 weeks after your blonde hair coloring service is still a smart move.

How To Get Your Natural Hair Color Back

Always be clear about your main goal and what color blonde you are trying to achieve. Trust my experience, light brown hair is a long way from your normal color, so give it a try before you commit to changing your hair color from brown to blonde. Balayage, foiling and hand coloring will deliver flawless results and bring you closer to the look you want to achieve.

For most of my clients, I choose the follicular technique with hand painting depending on the amount of lift I am trying to achieve. I start at the nape of my neck using back diagonal sections and work my way up to the crown of my head for a seamless blend. I then color the roots a slightly darker shade than the client’s natural color. And I get a beautiful brunette to blonde with the perfect blend!

We had to color this client right because her natural hair is dark brown and very resistant to lift. I left this gorgeous, rich brunette balayage and toned it down to take out all the heat.

There are also stylist tricks to help minimize damage. For example, the best way to achieve light blonde hair is to wet your hair after a full cut. This way you can damage the locks quickly and with less damage.

Don’t try to be blonde though. Instead, choose your own color for a subtle yet classic hair color. Here’s a scenario where a client has previously had stubborn black hair. We had to work with what we had and still managed to achieve these gorgeous brown accents.

Last week I bleached my naturally dark brunette hair for the 5th time in the last year. Without proper care, high quality products, the knowledge of hair stylists and PATIENCE (most importantly) I would never have been able to achieve this color and super healthy hair.

I bleached/straightened my hair for the first time in June 2019. Here we are in July 2020 after my 5th appointment. I went through this process slowly…which was very important to me as someone who doesn’t take enough care of my hair. Low-maintenance/high-maintenance is subjective, but for me, a slow, healthy transition to blonde/bronde has always been important. I’ve always had my hairstylist do balayage or shadow roots so I hope my color *fades/grows* naturally.
