Good Haircut Styles For Curly Hair – One of the most talked about topics on the internet is what is the best haircut for curly hair. I wasn’t surprised when someone submitted this question to my recent Good Hair Q&A series, and while I’m a little nervous about tackling it, I have a few tips I wanted to share with you.

But first I want to make it clear that I am not a hairdresser; I am a curly haired person who has been to many salons over the years and seen and tried many different techniques.

Here are what I think are the best haircuts and styles for curly and wavy hair, as well as some popular curly haircuts that I think you should avoid at all costs.

Yes, there are different standards by which barbers are trained, and while seeing a curly hair specialist can help, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee you’ll get a great cut.

A lot of curly training skills seem a little dated. Visiting a hairdresser who takes the time to listen to you and understand your hair is therefore much more valuable than visiting a specialist.

It is quite common in the hairdressing industry to cut hair when it is wet. Curly girls prefer a dry haircut. Here they cut the hair curl by curl. It has certain advantages, but it also has disadvantages.

Personally, I prefer wet cuts because they go smoother and give me more versatility. And since my curls are never the same during dry cuts, I can always end up with something uneven.

Depending on your curl shape, this will be very different for you and you may want dry cuts.

Called DevaCut, this curly hairstyle was launched from the Deva chain of salons in New York. This was also formalized by Lorraine Massey in her book Curly Girl. This technique is a dry cut where they cut curl by curl while examining your hair.

The advantage of this cut is that you are less likely to cut it too short because it takes into account how the curls “shrink” when dry.

However, if you have much heavier hair like me and your curls can change from day to day, this type of cut is very inconsistent. This can be quite a time consuming process and the stylist will charge more for this type of appointment.

The Ouidad (pronounced “wee-dad”) school of hair styling has a sort of hybrid haircut theory. They start with a wet cut, cut into curls to shape the hair. They are then dry cut and checked again and, when finally dry, cut.

Most hairdressers I know follow this styling technique – or at least, whether your hair is curly or straight. Cut it wet, and then, when it’s dry, double-check it to make the most sense.

I don’t see this technique mentioned online, although I think it’s a more versatile cut that works for many different curl types – and hair types in general.

If you’ve ever seen these scissors in a salon or had them on your own hair, you’ll immediately understand why I say no to thinning scissors.

Very popular in the 80s thanks to that Farrah Fawcett movie, these are not the kind of scissors you want to thin curly hair with. These scissors have one blade, which is a regular scissor blade, and the other end has a comb-like blade. They cut off half of the hair.

Although they will thin your hair, they will also look very fine at the ends, which can make your hair look thin and wavy.

I’ve seen this mentioned a lot on YouTube lately, and a lot of curly girls on the forum talking about how to do a unicorn haircut at home.

I don’t want to go too deep into this because I don’t want to encourage you to do it, but in a nutshell, here’s what you do: Roughly pull all the hair into a ponytail on top of your head and cut it straight. .

The idea behind this technique is to create a hairstyle where all the layers are the same length. However, it is usually very difficult to cut your own hair or even someone else’s hair evenly if you are not a trained hairdresser.

What you end up with will look more like a mullet. Try it at your own risk.

There’s a reason barber scissors cost hundreds of dollars. They are incredibly sharp and a precision tool.

Don’t think you can cut your hair at home or cut split ends with regular scissors. You’re more likely to create more split ends with scissors that aren’t incredibly sharp.

Blunt scissors blunt your strands, which in turn will cause more split ends.

Hairdressers in Australia go through a three to four year apprenticeship, so don’t discredit their work by trying to do it yourself at home with a YouTube video.

I actually need a haircut right now because it’s been at least four months since I got a haircut. It grew out really well as I had some long layers cut and some shoulder and face framing layers.

I also used to have a so-called V-cut where my hair was cut in a V-shape at the back. I also had a version called a U-cut, which has a more rounded edge.

These cuts are ideal for longer curly hair as they allow more layers to create more curls around the edges. A V or U cut can look good on curly hair, but be aware that it can really thin your hair, so I went back to the long layered style.

I prefer to have more volume this way. And longer layers are easier for me to shape and braid.
