Or if they can go to a regular hairdresser to cut their wavy and curly hair when it’s wet. Here’s the thing: the looser your curl pattern is, the less important it is to have a curl-by-curl dry cut. Because they treat them the same as everyone else in their chair – and I mean that in a positive way! So my advice is to look for someone who can and does cut hair well, rather than just looking for a stylist who is a “perm specialist”. You can still get your hair cut by a perm specialist! And you can get a great haircut from a regular stylist who knows what he’s doing when it comes to cutting and styling hair.
Some stylists are known for being really good at coloring, others are really good at cutting. These are the stylists to look for! If these stylists are confident they can give you the cut, shape and style you want with a wet cut, let them. Don’t try to push them out of their comfort (and confidence) zone by forcing them to do it dry. Just because a book, blog or influencer told you it was the best. First, ask if you can bring your own products and don’t let them use products that contain sulfates, silicones, waxes, and oils on your hair. Bring shampoo, conditioner and styling products. Ask for layers, but avoid razors, thinning shears or clippers. UNLESS you’re looking for a textured, bumpy look. Or you choose a cosmetic hairstyle, which is very relevant in 2021. And look for bangs, that is, fringes, only if you are 100% sure that you want them! Layers are a great way to achieve volume and lift. But they’re also great for creating shape and definition – especially for wavy and curly hair! Even rough cuts and bobs have a few layers, but not a lot. If you have short shoulder-length hair or shorter and want to create more volume or a rounder shape.
